Snowdrops at Kingston Lacy to celebrate the coming of Spring, February 2011
One of the jewels of the National Trust, Kingston Lacy Estate near Wimborne, is only a short drive from Southmead. The Adam-style 17th century house is a national treasure in its own right, but no less so than its gardens and the extensive grounds. The latter are beautifully maintained, and from the end of winter throughout the year they present a sea of floral displays among the mature woodlands. National Trust volunteers run a daily service to the elderly and disadvantaged by operating a tractor-trailer tour of the estate.
We love to celebrate the coming of Spring by taking our Residents on the famous “Snowdrops” tour. After another quite hard winter, 2011 was remarkable for the early arrival of the exquisite little white flowers, and for their sheer numbers. So many of our Residents wanted to be on this one that we had two trailers on the tour for the first time. We were lucky to get a dry day in what our weather station says is the second wettest month of the year, so on Thursday 24th, we took off in the minibus and enjoyed this most beautiful attraction.
